The Death of Discussion

In the modern American society, the art of reading for knowledge and pleasure is dying. We have replaced the search of ideas and ideals with biased news bites. As a result, our society fails to enjoy reasoned debate and has turned to the insult. Read electronic newspapers, and the blogging that occurs dives into meaningless drivel where each side of the debate calls the other stupid. Thus we have witnessed the death of discussion.

I am a conservative. At work I sit next to a liberal. We often share ideas and have interesting discussions without stooping to mudslinging. We don't agree, but we respect each other.

Respect. What a novel concept.
